Unique art exhibit opens in Byfield

The Wilkie Center for the Performing Arts at The Governor’s Academy in Byfield recently opened a new exhibit by Ryan Kelley that showcases his work of metal sculpture art.

Residents of nearby Newburyport will not want to miss his signature wire trees and copper roses.

Keely commented he is very excited about having his official solo show in his hometown. The Wilkie Center is ideal for showing his work, he added, as the pieces displayed celebrate the community, education, and art.

Kelley taught along with Belle Struck, one of the art teachers at the Governor’s Academy, one week before the opening. Struck said that having Kelley as one its visiting artists who are part of the new Remis Workshop Series enables him to be able to talk with the community and work with the students at the Governor’s Academy. Kelly will be providing workshops and teaching students at all levels of the school.

Creating art from turning wood, metal, stone, and wire has been Kelley’s occupation for the past five years. The 250 sculptures which he has created over this period of time are in commercial and residential collections from Boston to Newburyport as well as Hawaii and Los Angeles. The exhibit runs until March 3.

Many performing arts centers, like the Wilkie Center, benefit from the assistance of a local printing company to advertise this exhibit by means of Banners and Posters.
