Teens have opportunity to photograph nature

The Joppa Flats Education Center in Newburyport will be holding a workshop on nature photography during the school vacation week in April.

The focus of the workshop will be to learn about the workings of a digital camera and tricks of the trade and then going outside to practice these new learned skills. Each day a different local habitat will be explored to capture creatures, nature, texture, and light and be involved in technology, science, and art. The expectation is that everyone will have fun and enjoy themselves while they learn.

Each day will feature a different topic. The first day will be a hike through Maudslay State Park to photograph the forest while the second day will be about songbirds and their study at the bird banding station at Joppa Flats. The third day is on the raptor species at the Parker River National Wildlife Refuge. The week ends with tide pool photography at Plum Island. Brochure printing is often used to provide more details about such experiences.

The workshop is geared for those between the ages of 13 and 16 years. Attendees will be required to bring their own digital cameras. It will run between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. from Tuesday April 21 through Friday April 24. The deadline for registration is Tuesday April 7.
