Singers encouraged to join chorus in Newburyport

Weekly rehearsals of the Newburyport Choral Society (NCS) will begin later this month at the Belleville Congregational Church.

New singers are invited to join the family of the NCS each season. Singers range from beginners to those with more advanced skills and can be of all age levels. More information about requesting an invitation to join such groups can be found with Flyers created by local printing services.

The musical director of the NCS, Ryan Turner, said that the only requirements to join the group are a commitment to learning music and a love of singing. He added that rehearsals are designed so that everyone can learn together, sing together, and enjoy music together, working to achieve excellence in making music.

Turner has been the music director of NCS since 2020 and teaches singers vocal techniques and tips. He teaches early music and voice at the Longy School of Music of Bard College in Cambridge and is also the artistic director of Emmanuel Music in Boston. The group will be preparing for concerts on Saturday, May 6 and Sunday, May 7.

Victoria Bushey, president of the NCS, said these concerts will be special as the group will be collaborating with the Greater Newburyport Children’s Chorus and the Boston Camerata.

Weekly rehearsals will begin on Tuesday, January 17 at 7:15 pm, with doors opening at 7:00 pm. Registration will be open through Sunday, January 29.
