A grant from the license plate program of Massachusetts, known as ‘I’m Animal Friendly’, was recently awarded to the Merrimack River Feline Rescue Society.
The $20 cost for spaying and neutering surgeries of cats for the residents of Fitchburg, Lynn, and Salisbury will be underwritten by this grant. The money will also go towards the monthly neuter/spay clinics for feral cats of the Society.
The Merrimack River Feline Rescue Society will be able to provide these services by means of its Catmobiles, two surgical clinics that that travel throughout Central and Eastern Massachusetts. Residents of Newburyport may also be able to take advantage of these Catmobiles given the city’s location in this area. The Nevins Farm of the MSPCA in Methuen is host to the monthly feral spay/neuter clinics held by the Society.
The executive director of the Society, Liz Pease, commented that the license plate program of the Massachusetts Animal Coalition enables the Society to provide low-cost alternatives for people who are looking into spaying and neutering their cats. Feral cat trappers and caretakers can also take advantage of the Society’s free spay and neutering programs for these animals.
The Society might benefit from the assistance of a local printing company to promote these low-cost and free services by means of Flyers and mailers that can be sent to those in the neighboring communities.
