Outdoor nature events to be held in Newburyport

The Mass Audubon Joppa Flats Education Center in Newburyport will be holding several special activities and events next month.

Such events and activities are often promoted throughout the community with flyer printing.

Feed the Beach Creatures: Salt Marsh Inhabitants will enable attendees to join the animal husbandry team to identify, sort, and feed the live marine animals at Joppa Flats. Among the animals are rock crabs, minnows, horseshoe crabs, and shrimp. This activity will be from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday July 3.

An all-day event of the Joppa Flats Education Center will be a Puffin and Sea Bird Cruise, which will be a guided cruise from New Harbor, Maine to Easter Egg Rock, which is a location that is well-known as a breeding ground for Atlantic Puffins. There will be time to do some birding and a lobster lunch will be part of the activity before the return to Newburyport. This will be from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Saturday June 6.

There will be an All-Family Field Trip of Birds on the River for families with children between 4 and 11 years old. Led by Lisa Hutchings, Education Coordinator, this activity will introduce families to local forests, beaches, and wetlands to observe nature, identify wildlife, and enjoy hands-on science activities outdoors. This will be from 10:00 a.m. to noon on Thursday July 11.
