North Shore ice cream shop introduces unique flavor
A new and rare ice cream flavor will be available at the Hodgies Too ice cream shops in Newburyport and Salisbury come this spring.
Craig McPherson from Sunnyvale, California recently joined Brian Charte, co- owner of Hodgies Too, and enjoys barbecue. The two collaborated and have developed a barbecued brisket ice cream. McPherson said that there is a base of sweet buttercream with some caramel and barbecue and does include some brisket. He added that it has a real taste of summer.
Co-owner Derek Dore took to the flavor as the shop has introduced unique flavors in the past, such as brickle pie, and other distinctive flavors as customers of the shop seem to enjoy such treats. Although McPherson wanted to wait until Memorial Day to introduce the flavor on Memorial Day, Dore liked the first batch so much that the flavor, called Cmac’s Backyard BBQ, will make its debut immediately.
All proceeds from sales of the flavor will go to Our Neighbors’ Table and The Pettengill House. Dore said that they wanted to give back to the community in some way as many in the community have helped them in the past. Poster printing is often used to promote such new flavors and associated fundraising efforts.
Hodgies Too is opened in both locations Thursday through Sundays from 11:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.
