A new Community Choice Power Supply Program has been announced by the city of Newburyport, expected to save residents a total of over $2.2m this winter.
A contract has been signed by the city with Direct Energy Services, which will provide businesses and residents with relief in energy prices.
The Choice Power Supply Program of Newburyport is a municipal aggregation program such that local governments can combine the purchasing power of businesses and residents to provide them with an alternative electricity supply. Flyer printing is often a means to offer further details about such programs and their benefits for a community.
The standard rate of the program beginning next month will reduce the cost to $0.33891 per kWh, which is 36% lower than the winter Residential Basic Service price from National Grid. In May 2023, the rate will drop $0.13320 per kWh and will remain at that price until November 2023. After that time, the city will negotiate new rates.
There will be no change in electricity services in the city. Small business owners and residents will continue to receive one bill from National Grid with the name of Direct Energy Services of Houston, Texas, as the electricity supplier. Those who choose to participate in this program will not need to take any further action as they will be automatically enrolled in the program.
