The next Warm Talks for Cold Winds will take place at the Custom House Maritime Museum in Newburyport later this month.
The topic of the talk by James Russell, executive director of the museum, will be “Newburyporters Among the Whales,” and will focus on the adventures of the Newburyport whalers around the world as they pursued the creatures of the deep oceans.
The talk will start with the early whaling expeditions in the North Atlantic and conclude with the end of whaling. “Among the Whales”, a book written by Margaret Peckham Mote in 2022 and illustrated by Jeffrey Briggs, will be referenced by Russell during the talk.
This will take place on Sunday January 14 from 2:00 to 4:00pm.
The next Warm Talks for Cold Winds discussion is scheduled for the beginning of February. This talk will feature the author of “Stanfield Chronicles,” David Tory. This is the third book in his series, and it covers the area of Newburyport from 1630 through 1635, which will be the topic of his talk. This will be on Sunday February 4.
Such talks are often promoted throughout a town with poster printing.
The mission of the Custom House Maritime Museum is to inspire and engage the community with the unique maritime history of Newburyport by preserving and sharing the collections of and the building of the Custom House.
