Newburyport to host session for reducing property taxes

The Council on Aging in Newburyport will be holding an information session on its Holding Tax Work-Off Program later this month.

This program is designed for veterans and seniors who want to work with the city to reduce their property taxes. The program places veterans and older residents of Newburyport in city departments so they can work to decrease their payments of property taxes each year. The Council on Aging administers the program in partnership with a representative from the Mayor's Office and directors of several departments in the city.

There are many positions in the city that require a wide range of skills. Some of these positions include serving as receptionists at the Senior/Community Center or at City Hall, and assisting in the recycling program. Many departments in the city are asked to think about creating positions to fulfill the needs of this program. Those who participate in the program can earn a credit of up to $1,500 a year.

Brochure printing is often used to provide more details about such programs, the application process, and its benefits.

This information session will be held at 4:00 pm on Thursday, May 18 at the Senior/Community Center. Those who are interested in the program will be able to complete their application at this time if they bring either both their social security card and driver’s license, or simply their United States passport.
