Newburyport to host book festival
Various venues throughout downtown Newburyport will be the location for the upcoming Newburyport Literary Festival, which is to be held for the 11th consecutive year.
This year’s festival will honor local poet and teacher Deborah Szabo and celebrate the poetry of Edna St. Vincent Millay.
The overture for the festival will be held on the first day, beginning at 4:00 pm at the Firehouse Center for the Arts. A public conversation will be co-hosted by journalist Dyke Hendrickson and Senator George J. Mitchell.
This will be followed the opening ceremony at 6:00 pm, where the work, life and influence of Edna St. Vincent Millay will be discussed by arts journalist Carl Little and biographer and poet Daniel Mark Epstein. Then, a dinner with local authors will be held at the Masonic Lodge.
The next day is filled with readings of poetry, fiction, and non-fiction by authors of children’s books, local writers, poets, novelists and many others discussing their works. A closing ceremony honoring Deborah Szabo, who lived close to Edna St. Vincent Millay, will be held at 7:00 pm at the Firehouse Center for the Arts.
The authors may want to use print companies to create various types of printed material about their works so attendees can find out more about authors they may have discovered at the festival, which will be held April 29 and 30.
