Members of the Newburyport community will have an opportunity later this month to learn more about the water supply for the city, and the efforts being made in both the short and long term to ensure its reservoirs are protected.
There will be a meeting at which there will be a presentation, along with a question and answer session.
After the meeting, attendees will visit the Lower Artichoke Dam so that the public can see the site, and staff from the Department of Public Service can describe in more detail the mitigation work.
Such meetings and tours and their importance in informing the community can be promoted throughout a city using poster printing.
Transportation will be provided from the meeting to the reservoir. Registration is required for the tour as the maximum number of visitors will be capped at 50. Registration is not required for the meeting itself, however.
Interest in Newburyport about the Lower Artichoke Dam has increased since there was a minor breach on January 13 due to significant flooding. Community members are looking for more information about this event and efforts by the city to lessen the effects of such occurrences in the future.
This session will be held on Wednesday, April 24, beginning at 2:00pm at the Senior Community Center. The tour is scheduled to follow at 3:00pm.
