Newburyport to fund several projects across the city

Several appropriations from the Community Preservation Committee have been approved by the City Council of Newburyport which will enable the funding of over a dozen projects in the city. The total funding amounts to just over $1.2m.

Announcements of such appropriations and their benefits for the community can be made known through flyer printing.

One of the projects will be to close some of the Clipper City Rail Trail’s gaps. The amount approved for this project is $250,000 of which $50,000 will be used to improve safety at the intersection of Parker and State Streets and another $50,000 will go towards cleaning up polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB) chemicals on part of the trail at the back of the waste water treatment plant. The rest of the allocated funds will be used for a funding match that will help to pay for the project.

The other major projects include:

• $125,000 for the open space reserve fund
• $30,250 to fund the second phase of the project at Cushing House Cobble Courtyard
• $127,575 to replace the HVAC system at the Newburyport Public Library Archival Center
• $76,728 to restore the 1930s Maxim truck of the Fire Department

Other projects covered in the funding include $12,062 for providing shade at Perkins Park; $100,000 to make improvements to the northwest corner of the Bartlet Mall; and $10,000 for preservation of heritage trees in Oak Hill Cemetery.
