The Exchange Club of Greater Newburyport will hold its Sunday Field of Honor along with the traditional 9/11 ceremony hosted by the Newburyport Fire Department.
The keynote speaker for the event will be Chrsitopher LeClaire, chief of the Fire Department, who will reflect on the sacrifices and dedication of those who serve. A piece of steel from the World Trade Center will be with him. Local officials will also speak and there will be a performance by the Merrimack Valley Concert Band. There will also be four moments of silence to mark the time of impact of each of the planes.
The Field of Honor has full-sized American flags in a grid. These are available for purchase and can be dedicated to those heroes who have served the country or the community, including the military, police, fire, healthcare, and other essential workers. At the end of the ceremony will be a reading of the flag dedications.
Such special ceremonies are often promoted throughout a community with poster printing.
Donna Holaday, mayor of Newburyport, expressed her gratitude for being able to host the Field of Honor to recognize and remember all the people who have served on the front lines.
The set of ceremonies will be this Saturday, September 11 beginning at 8:30 am on the Bartlett Mall.
