A new affordable housing project has been unveiled in Newburyport, the YWCA at Hillside.
Donna Holaday, former mayor of the city, said that this type of housing is much needed in the city, to make the community more affordable for all residents. Holiday commended David Hall of Hall and Moskow, a developer, for donating the land, proposing this housing, and ensuring that the project came to fruition.
YWCA at Hillsdale will have 10 affordable housing units for single occupants. Each unit will have its own bedroom with closet space and bathroom but will share common spaces such as a kitchen and living room. The building will be environmentally sustainable. The project is near the Newburyport Industrial Park and downtown Newburyport. There are employment opportunities within walking distance, as well as through public transportation. Brochure printing can be used to provide more details about such housing projects.
A grant is being provided by the Federal Home Loan Bank to help make the project a reality along with a loan from the Institution for Savings. Funding from the Community Preservation Act and the Community Scale Housing Initiative of MassHousing and an initial investment from Charlesbank Homes Foundation are also supporting this project, as well as donations from many private donors. There will be continuing subsidies from the state to ensure that rents remain affordable in the long run.
