The Screening Room in Newburyport will be showcasing two films that will focus on fisheries in New England.
Such films are often promoted throughout a community with poster printing to garner attendees for these unique and special events.
The first one is “CODA,” a film that won four of the top prizes at the Sundance Film Festival this year. It was filmed on the North Shore in Rockport and Gloucester and is filled with music. It is the story of a teenager who is the only member of the family who can hear and travels through the community, where members need to work together to maintain their fishing business. The name of the film, “CODA,” stands for “Child of Deaf Adults.” The film will be shown on from this Friday, August 13 through Thursday, August 26.
The other film will look more closely into the fisheries of New England, focusing on the lobster industry with the feature film “Entangled” directed by David Abel. The film documents how climate changed has caused a conflict between an endangered species - the North Atlantic right whale – and a federal agency that oversees protecting it.
This film will be shown at 4:00 pm on Saturday, August 21. There will be a discussion with Abel after the screening. The cost of a ticket is $15.
