Applications for subsidized and affordable single-room units at the YWCA at Hillside are now being accepted by the YMCA Greater Newburyport.
Each unit has its own bathroom, but there is a kitchen and other areas that will be shared among tenants. The project is uniquely designed to be environmentally sustainable. Those wanting to live at this facility will not need to pay for utilities, but they will be required to be involved in programs that look to minimize impact on the environment, including recycling and conservation of energy.
Units will be assigned by a lottery, with preference given to those who are homeless and require a sensory or wheelchair-accessible unit. More information about such requirements and units are often provided with brochure printing.
The Newburyport Industrial Park and the downtown are near YWCA at Hillside. There is a bus line along the street, which has a stop within walking distance of the complex. There are also opportunities for employment along the bus line and within walking distance. The barn at Hillside will provide storage for bicycles, and there will be access for tenants to electric vehicles charged on site.
Those seeking more information about the units are invited to an informational meeting that will be held on Pond Street on Tuesday, June 30 at 6:00 pm. Applications are due at the YWCA on Monday, August 16 at 5:00 pm.
