The Healthy Relationships Community Grant program of Major League Baseball (MLB) has awarded the Jeanne Geiger Crisis Center in Newburyport a grant of $50,000.
The focus of the program is to support non-profit organizations that work to improve mental health and wellness in the community. Suzanne Dubus, CEO of the Center, expressed her delight in receiving this grant from the MLB, which shows that a leader in the professional sports industry can focus on developing positive relationships for the future.
Dubus said the funds will go towards its Children’s Safety Project. This project covers services for children who have been victims of or witnessed domestic violence as well as prevention programs for youth in area schools. Brochure printing is often used to provide more information for individuals about such programs. Funding for this program is important during this period of time to continue the work of the project.
The CEO also added that this project is one of the major programs of the center that goes towards helping communities and individuals to end domestic violence. Youth are given the resources and tools and educated on the skills they need to break the cycle of abuse, including how to develop healthy relationships and promote positive gender norms.
The Center was one of 10 non-profit organizations across the country to receive such a grant.
