Newburyport exhibit features past and present

A new exhibit will be opening at the Newburyport Art Association in celebration of the 250th anniversary of the city, featuring photographs from the archives of the Newburyport Public Library alongside modern day interpretations of them.

Most likely, various printing services are being used to announce this ‘Then and Now’ exhibit and all its related events. Featured artists in the exhibit include Marge and Skip Motes, Susan Spellman, Robert Currier, Jay McCarthy, Carol Reynolds, Cynthia Cooper, and Susan Kneeland. Spellman and the Moteses have been working with Ghlee Woodworth, a local historian, and archivist Jessica Gill over the past several months to create the exhibit.

The exhibit opens today, July 29, and runs at the Association until this Sunday, August 3. From August 6 through September 28, it will be displayed at the Firehouse Center for the Arts, with a free artists’ reception on the evening of Friday, August 8.

On Saturday September 27th, Woodworth will present a slideshow, for which there will be a fee to attend.

Founded in 1948, the Newburyport Art Association is dedicated to exhibiting and promoting the work of its members, educating students of all skill levels and ages, and ensuring that the visual arts are accessible to adults with special needs and students in the local schools. More info is available on the association’s website.
