‘Signs of the Times’ is the theme for this year’s Newburyport Preservation Week, which is now underway.
The theme is in recognition of several activities that include the new Historic House Plaque Program of the Newburyport Preservation Trust and the celebration of Signs around town that increase awareness of preservation, including that of the establishment of the town’s National Register Historic District just over 30 years ago.
The new Historic House Plaque Program enables owners of the numerous historic homes in the town to have plaques created for their homes with the date of construction, the builder, or the original owner. The historic value of the program is that professional researchers have been involved in verifying dates and facts about the homes.
The four homes that have received these plaques so far will be showcased on guided exterior house tours this Saturday, May 16, during which architectural elements and other stories about the homes will be revealed.
Other events will include a lunchtime concert taking place tomorrow, performed in the recently restored St. Anna’s Chapel, and an evening lecture by Alison Hardy on the Signs of style and status of windows on Friday, May 15. The week will culminate with the annual Preservation Reception and Awards Ceremony to celebrate historic preservation efforts in the town.
The use of brochure printers is one way that the Preservation Society can provide more information about the purpose of the week and its many events.Get a Free Quote for Signs
