Changes are currently being implemented on the Newburyport/Rockport line by Keolis Commuter Services and the Massachusetts Bay Transit Authority (MBTA), increasing the frequency of trains.
New schedules for the fall are available on the MBTA website, and through the ability of Print shops to create such printed schedules, they often become available to pick up at the train stations as well. Updates are also available on social media and announcements onboard the trains.
There will be new options for inbound and outbound trains that will distribute trains evenly throughout the day to facilitate travel during off-peak hours for those going in and out of Boston. Riders from Newburyport will see schedules that are more reflective of ridership demands and will provide easy connections to other types of transportation from such cities as Lynn and Brockton. Lynn, for example, will have mid-day service every 30 minutes, while the mid-day service from Brockton will operate every 60 to 70 minutes.
General manager for MBTA, Steve Poftak, said that these changes will help to more evenly distribute service and respond to changing patterns in ridership. David Scorey, CEO and General Manager of Keolis, added that passengers have requested such a range of options and these schedule changes show how important it is to meet the needs of the riding public by adapting the service.
