New fire station unveiled in Newburyport

The John F. Cutter Jr. Fire Station in Newburyport is now open.

The building spans 6,600 square feet with a garage of 2,200 square feet and is designed to protect the West End section of the city. It replaces the West End Fire station that was the size of the current garage and was 51 years old. It no longer met fire codes.

Among the features of the new fire station are a laundry room, a decontamination room, separate lockers for street clothes and turnout gear, a fitness room, separate bunk rooms, and three showers.

This is the first net-zero building in the city, in that it is completely electrical and self-supporting. News of such new fire stations and their features and benefits is often made known throughout a community with various printing services.

Stephen Bradbury, fire chief, said this new fire station is perfect. He said that although it is a substation, it fits well within the neighborhood. Mayor Sean Reardon said that this new fire station will not only bring safety to the businesses and residents in this part of the city but will also support the health, safety, and well-being of the firefighters who devote their lives to the city of Newburyport.

The Mayor also expressed his thanks to the residents of the West End for their patience while the station was being built over the past year.
