James P. Russell has been selected as the new Executive Director of the Custom House Maritime Museum (CHMM) in Newburyport.
Such new selections often call for business card printing services to reflect new roles taken on.
Jack Santos, chair of the board of directors, expressed on their behalf the thrill in having Russell lead the museum. Santos said he has over 30 years of experience with non-profit educational institutions, of which 20 of those years were spent working with maritime museums.
Santos added that Russell appreciates the prominent place of Newburyport in American maritime history, and of the museum as an historical landmark in the city.
Russell was most recently chief executive officer of the Nantucket Historical Association. From 2008 to 2017, he was president of the New Bedford Whaling Museum. During this time, he was able to leverage the collections of the museum to frame the history of whaling in an historical, ecological, global, and societal context that made them relevant to today’s audiences.
Russell said he expects this new position to be both challenging and exhilarating. He said he is eager to work with the staff, volunteers, the board, docents, stakeholders in the community, and the members, as program initiatives are developed that will be relevant to those in the region of the lower Merrimack River Valley.
He added that using the unique resources of the CHMM while working with the many organizations in the community will be important for success.
