Literary festival to come to Newburyport

The Firehouse Center for the Arts will be hosting the Newburyport Literary Festival later this month.

It will take place over a span of three days; the first two with in-person events are at various locations in downtown Newburyport, while the last day offers virtual events. Such special events are often promoted throughout a town and surrounding communities with poster printing.

Peter Orner is the honoree of the festival. The award-winning author of “Am I Alone Here?,” he will be part of the opening ceremony on the Friday where he and local author Andre Dubus III will have a conversation and discuss Orner’s latest book. This will be followed by a cocktail reception at The Grog Restaurant on Middle Street. There is no charge to be at the opening ceremony, but tickets for the reception are $25 per person.

Events on Saturday will open at the Newburyport Public Library’s Coffee with Poets, featuring several scholars, poets, and authors. Other events throughout the day will take place at City Hall, Central Congregational Church, the Unitarian Universalist Church, the Old South Presbyterian Church, and the Firehouse. There will be a night of readings at the Firehouse beginning at 7:00 pm. Featured authors will run the virtual events on Sunday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.

The Newburyport Literary Festival will run from Friday, April 28 through Sunday, April 30.
