The oil paintings of artist Julia Purinton are currently on display in a new exhibit at the Paula Estey Gallery in Newburyport.
Such exhibits are often promoted throughout a community with poster printing.
Titled “The World Without Us,” the exhibit explores the endurance of nature beyond the human race free of any man-made grandeur or romanticism. Purinton said that the idea is to look at the more ephemeral qualities and beauty of nature. Estey said she has always been an admirer of Purinton’s work. She said that Etsy has the ability to capture the atmosphere and light in landscapes and celebrates the magnificence of the natural world.
Purinton has a degree in fine arts from Harvard College and has also studied in New York City at the School of Fine Arts. She now spends her time between the Mad River Valley of Vermont and Washington, D.C. Her work has been selected to be exhibited at the University of Vermont Hospital, the Burlington Center for the Arts, the State House of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, and The Firehouse Center for the Arts, among others in New England.
The exhibit runs through the end of this month. It is open from noon to 4:00 pm or by appointment on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. Purinton’s work can also be seen on the gallery’s website.
