Funds allocated for Newburyport street improvements

An amount of $6m has been approved by the City Council of Newburyport to fund an updated plan for sidewalk and road improvements over the next five years.

The Streets and Sidewalks Improvement Plan of the city identifies sections of sidewalks and streets that need to be repaired, the general condition of the surface or road, the year in which work is scheduled, and a cost estimate for the work. The plan for 2024 further defines which sidewalks will be repaired each year, and adds a list of additional safety priorities and sidewalk projects Newburyport will undertake if there is funding available. Each year, the plan will be updated following a review of the sidewalks and streets.

Residents may request that work in their area be done sooner than planned, or may ask for a sidewalk or street to be repaired that is not in the plan.

News of such work and any updates to such schedules can be shared throughout a city with flyer printing and other printing services, as well as social media channels.

Mayor Sean Reardon thanked the City Council for supporting such an important project. He said that the work completed so far has greatly improved the quality of life for the residents of the city, and has made it more attractive for visitors too.
