Demand keeps farmers busy at market

The establishment of a farmer’s market during the winter months in Newburyport has cultivated such interest that market organizers have announced that the market will be open on a twice-monthly basis now until April 22.

The market hours will be 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. rain, snow or shine on the two Sundays a month that it will be open. The market will operate comfortably from the Tannery Marketplace event tent on Water Street which will be heated throughout the winter months.

Reaping the benefits of the extended winter hours are several new vendors, such as Wolf Meadow Farm, Alfalfa Farm Winery, Sweet Lydia’s and Craquelins. With the new market occupants comes a variety of soft Italian cheeses, locally crafted wines, handmade candies and goodies and sweet and savory crisp flatbreads.

Postcard printing has begun to announce winter hours and to advertise the new vendors who are joining market mainstays such as Middle Earth Farm, White Heron Tea, and Via Lactia Farm.

The festive atmosphere of the market will be enhanced by live music every Sunday, entertaining shoppers while they purchase their fresh meats and produce and enjoy a bite to eat.

The Newburyport Farmer’s Market is able to open during the winter due to the generous support of The Newburyport Five Cents Savings Bank and Anna Jaques Hospital. The market is also on Facebook or shoppers can follow them on Twitter @farmista.
