Creativity showcase displays student projects

Georgetown Middle High School, near the city of Newburyport, has recently initiated a class in in Creativity, Inspiration and Innovation as a way to recognize the importance of acquiring creative thinking for future employment opportunities. All freshmen will take it as a requirement for graduation at the high school.

In the school’s course offerings, it is described as a hands-on class where creative problem solving is used for exploring the basis of business and future entrepreneurial endeavors, as well as learning about basic business functions.

According to Peter Lucia, the school principal, over the next 10 years, more and more jobs will be related to creativity, and it was felt important that the skill of thinking creatively be introduced to students and made a graduation requirement.

Earlier in the month, there was a Creativity Showcase organized by three teachers to show off the class projects completed by 121 students so far this year. They most likely used the services of a Print company to show descriptions alongside each project.

There was an opening presentation in the auditorium, during which students were featured in various slides on the screen, along with famous innovators such as Bill Gates, Albert Einstein, and Thomas Edison. The ‘William Tell Overture’ and selections from ‘Carmen’ provided some of the background music. After the presentation, everyone went to the cafeteria to see the projects.
