The Greater Newburyport Village will be presenting ‘Ben Franklin Returns’ next week to launch its charter membership campaign.
In 1754, early in his career, Ben Franklin visited Market Square in Newburyport when he was deputy postmaster for the Colonies, taking time off to explore a meetinghouse that had been struck by lightning.
Actor and historian Christopher Lowell will be portraying Franklin in the performance, as Franklin returns to Market Square and reflects on the events in his life. Franklin is expected to discuss his numerous contributions as an inventor, scientist, public servant, and community leader.
According to renowned biographer Walter Isaacson, Lowell portrays Franklin as wise, witty, and warmly human. He always engages his audiences and encourages questions and demonstrates the historical truth that was Ben Franklin.
Professor Mark Skousen of Columbia University adds that Lowell has a passion for the arts, science, history and politics, so his acts are always an evening to remember.
The event is sponsored by the Firehouse Center for the Arts, New England Wine and Spirits, both of Newburyport, and Appleton Eye Associates and Fair Inn by Marriott, both of Amesbury. These companies may be working with a local Print company to Print Flyers and other materials to promote this special event and encourage a large attendance from the town and surrounding communities.
The event will be this Wednesday, October 28, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Firehouse Center for the Arts.
