Arts center to offer wide range of visual and performing arts programs

Project Sparx, part of the education program of Firehouse Center for the Arts in Newburyport, has announced many new classes for teenagers and kids. These will use music, art, movement, and theater to foster the development and growth of skills.

Designed for infants and children to the age of five, Music and Movement enables children and their caregiver or parent to explore basic musical and movement skills, such as keeping rhythm and singing in tune. For those between the ages of three and five, the ABC’s of Acting explores the fundamentals of movement, storytelling, and how to react to music to help young children learn social skills.

Those in grades six through 12 can take the Musical Theater class. Those with novice to experienced theater skills can take the class, learn new techniques, and improve on those already known. Students will build their skills through choreography and voice and develop their communications skills as well. A showcase performance will take place during the last class that will demonstrate what the students have learned throughout the program.

Making such classes known to the general community often requires the use of printing services.

John Moynihan, Executive Director, expressed his excitement about offering these course, which begin at the end of September, noting that the center has been working on their development for quite some time.
