The fourth annual Bag a Turkey fundraiser is being held from now until mid-December by Newburyport Youth Services.
The group is working with the Learning Enrichment Center of Newburyport and the Sustainability Office of the city to collect monetary donations and non-perishable food items so that turkeys and all their accompaniments can be given to those in need during the holiday season. Both holiday meals and daily essential will be provided to families throughout the city.
Bins for collecting non-perishable food items are available at the Newburyport City Hall, the Superintendent’s Office, and the Newburyport Rec Center. Containers are on the countertops of many local merchants for monetary donations. Last year, the group delivered 84 meals and hopes to break that record this year.
Newburyport Youth Services is designed to create high quality events and programs for the youth of the city so that they can grow, explore and be empowered. The department recently moved to a new location at the Newburyport Rec Center, which provides a gymnasium, stage and more programming space.
The department has used printing services to Print an extensive brochure on all the activities and events of the group for the year, including a special page with more information about this fundraiser. Some of the events coming up for the winter include ski trips and special activities for February vacation.
