Funding awarded to zoo for solar panels
An appropriation of $3m for Zoo New England (ZNE) in Stoneham has been secured by State Representative Michael Day and State Senator Jason Lewis.
ZNE, which operates the Stone and Franklin Park Zoos, will be used to install a new solar power array at the Stone Zoo in Stoneham. All the power required by the Zoo will be provided by this energy project, which will help to lower operating costs and reduce carbon emissions. Residents of Malden who frequent the nearby zoo may be interested in this project.
Flyer printing may also be used to inform residents and people who visit their local zoo about such important projects.
Senator Lewis expressed his thrill that they were able to secure this funding for the Zoo. He added that the solar array will help to save money and provide an educational opportunity for the young children and families that visit it. Representative Day said that the lives of families and children have been positively impacted by the Zoo for many years. Day added that such investments help to reinforce the mission to practice responsible stewardship of natural resources.
The President and CEO of ZNE, John Linehan, also expressed his excitement and gratitude about the project, noting that the solar array will provide for almost all the electrical needs of the Zoo.
