This October, Lowell will hold its pilot Open Streets event, a nationwide movement to encourage communities to get involved in healthy outdoor recreation as well as using the streets in a pedestrian-friendly way.
The Open Streets Project is an advocacy program that aims to make city streets more pedestrian-friendly and accessible. The initiatives include closing streets at certain times to accommodate outdoor activities such as dining, shopping, and exhibitions. Making the streets safer for healthy outdoor exercise and recreation by promoting share-the-road initiatives is also part of the project’s goals.
The volunteer-led DIY Lowell Project Team is spearheading the Open Streets event this October, thereby closing Merrimack Street between Kirk and Central to vehicular traffic for one afternoon. During this closure, pedestrians will be able to walk about enjoying sidewalk sales, an arts and crafts vendor fair, live music and dance performances, and interactive crafts.
Decorating for outdoor events like this can often come in the form of colorful Banners that organizers can use to advertise the theme of the event. Banner printing is just one of the methods used, not just to promote an upcoming event but welcome people on the day.
The Open Streets Lowell event is slated to take place on October 4 from 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm. There is no admission fee to attend the event.
