Veteran pop-rock performer Billy Joel will return to Massachusetts this August with an outdoor performance at Fenway Park.
The concert will contain a mixture of songs from Joel’s five-decade career, most notably from the ‘70s and ‘80s when Joel songs like “It’s Still Rock and Roll to Me,” “Tell Her About It,” and “We Didn’t Start the Fire” dominated the charts. Joel has also been known to perform covers of songs by other popular artists like The Beatles and his frequent touring partner Elton John. While Joel largely retired from writing and recording new music in the early ‘90s, he still maintains a strong touring schedule, of which the Fenway show will be a part. The show is a make-up for a concert originally scheduled for August 28 last year that was canceled due to the pandemic.
The Fenway concert is part of Joel’s North American tour, which also includes stops in Buffalo, Cincinatti, and Austin as well as Joel’s ongoing residency at Madison Square Garden. It is also part of a series of concerts taking place at Fenway this summer, including big names like Guns N’ Roses and Alicia Keys, designed to draw in fans from surrounding areas like Canton and Cambridge. Many concerts like this, promoted using flyer printing and local media advertisements, have turned to outdoor venues over the past year to allow people to gather safely.
Billy Joel’s concert at Fenway Park will take place on August 4.
