Canton area chamber invites community to rail update

The Metro South Chamber of Commerce is partnering with several other chambers and Massachusetts government departments to host an update on the South Coast Rail expansion project this June.

South Coast Rail: A Year in Review will include a keynote speech and additional discussion about the newly extended train line. The program will cover the line’s impact on the region’s workforce, housing, and downtown areas. Phillip Eng, the Interim Secretary of the Massachusetts Department of Transportation and the General Manager of the MBTA, will give the keynote.

The South Coast Rail project has extended the Fall River/New Bedford Line to include six new stations. These provide direct train service between Boston and New Bedford, Fall River, and Taunton. These three towns did not previously have commuter rail access, so the new stations may affect housing and employment decisions for residents.

The event is free to attend, but registration is required. Anyone interested in the expanded rail line is welcome, including local officials, business owners, and members of the community. The Metro South Chamber of Commerce, which has members from Canton and neighboring towns, is co-hosting the event with the One SouthCoast Chamber and the Taunton Area Chamber. Organizations often use flyer printing services to promote their public events.

The public event is scheduled for Tuesday, June 2 from 8:30 am to 12:00 pm, at Bridgewater State University.
