Curry College announces womens hockey hire

Kelly Rider has been selected to be the first ever head coach of Curry College’s women’s ice hockey program, drawing on both her sporting expertise and her roots in the Canton area.

Rider is a USA Hockey certified coach, as well as an accredited strength and conditioning trainer. She previously coached at Canton High School, during which time she was also a league representative on the Massachusetts State Hockey Coaches Association. Rider is coming off a four-year stint as coach of the Northland College LumberJills in Wisconsin, another recently started program that eventually saw seven of her players win All-American Scholars awards. She was also involved in coaching at USA Hockey U18 Developmental camps.

The Curry Colonels women’s hockey team will join the schools’ other athletic squads in the Commonwealth Coast Conference, where they will be competing against New England rivals like the Gordon Fighting Scots and the New England Nor’easters. The team will play in NCAA Division III. Sports at this level typically involve community members and passionate enthusiasts, and are often advertised through tools like poster printing and brochure printing.

Curry College will begin fielding its women’s hockey team, with Rider at the helm, in the 2021-22 season. Although the school is located in Milton, the team will play at the Canton Ice House like the men’s hockey squad.
