Canton Co-Operative sponsors financial literacy classes

Canton High School will once again be hosting a class that aims to teach its students the key factors of personal finance, in partnership with Canton Co-Operative Bank.

The initiative is called the Money Experience, and is open to juniors and seniors at Canton High. The program was first launched in September 2019 with funding from Canton Co-Operative, and was successful enough that it is being brought back for 2021. The curriculum uses graphics and apps to help students simulate a real-world budget and pursue various financial priorities. The funding helps to purchase the Money Experience proprietary software, which has also been used in colleges, skill-building programs, and other educational institutions.

Using the program’s simulations, students can see the financial impact of choices such as going to university or directly into the workforce, or living in a city or a suburb. Classes like this are part of an effort to better prepare students for professional life, which can include everything from designing Business Cards to learning how to compile a weekly budget. The Money Experience is part of the school’s Life After Canton program, which aims to provide everyday skills and wellness to students who will soon be graduating and making their way in the world.
