Vines creep into garden talk

Cheryl Monroe will be a special guest speaker at the Andover Garden Club this month, talking about how to use annual and perennial ornamental vines to bring a new dimension to gardens.

Using photographs of gardens to illustrate her talk, she will demonstrate how vines can add scale, height, and drama to any garden space. The use of vines as ground covers, structural elements, and in borders around shrubs will be discussed.

Monroe is a Master Gardener and licensed educator for adults, teaching and lecturing throughout New England. Her specialty is clematis, which she calls ‘Queen of the Climbers’, and garden design. She spends her time researching the science of horticulture, reading, and taking classes so as to stay current in the latest research in design trends, plant research, and plant introductions. Her garden at home has close to 100 species and hybrids of clematis, along with many other ornamental vines.

The Andover Garden Club was founded in 1927 as a nonprofit charitable organization for the practice and study of landscape design, horticulture, and floral displays. It also helps to conserve natural resources and enhance the appearance of the town of Andover. It may be using local Print companies to help with creating Flyers and other mailers that can be sent to the community informing them of this event.

The talk will take place on Tuesday, March 3, at the South Church in Andover.
