Gallery in Andover opens with new exhibits

The Addison Gallery of American Art at Phillips Academy in Andover is now open, featuring several new exhibits that will be on display this fall and into early next year.

The work of artist and photographer Tommy Kha is featured in an exhibit called “Tommy Kha, Other Things Uttered.” Kha has been awarded the 2025 Hayes Prize of the gallery. This exhibit will be open until January 25.

Other new shows include “Family Portrait” and “Playing to Our Strengths: Highlights from the Permanent Collection.” The first is a collection of 200 years of photography that examines how family life has been remembered and depicted across generations. The second is an exploration of the holdings of the gallery. There are two parts to this exhibit. One highlights Pictorialist photography and American Impressionist works done with pastels, while the other presents harsher perspectives through Ashcan School documentary photography and painting. This exhibit will be open until July 31 next year.

“Making Their Way: The Florida Highwaymen Painters” will open on Tuesday, September 9 and will feature bright landscapes by African American artists who sold their paintings from door to door in the mid-20th century in Florida. “Captive Lands” will also be opening, and this explores the various interpretations of the American landscape.

Spreading the word about such new and upcoming exhibits can be done with poster printing.
