News of such recognitions is often spread throughout a school district and the community with flyer printing.
In recent years enrollment has almost doubled in elementary band programs, and the middle and high school ensembles have continued to expand. In addition, the offerings in the performing and visual arts have broadened, with new courses and programs added at each grade level. Winter guard and winter percussion and a middle school choir have been added as well as songwriting, beginner piano and guitar, and Advanced Placement Music Theory at the high school level. The Bancroft and Sanborn elementary schools have expanded their theater programs. Grant-funded programs have also enabled the district to distribute 110 musical instruments to families in financial need.
Keith Taverna, interim superintendent of the school district, said that this award recognizes a sustained effort in the district to make music education a priority and to ensure its excellence. He added:
“This recognition is a testament to the long-term commitment Andover Public Schools has made to ensuring every student has the opportunity to engage in meaningful and high-quality music education.”
District leaders said they plan to continue strengthening and expanding programming for the arts in the years ahead,
