Andover earns awards and explores new project

Andover recently earned statewide accolades as it also begins formal review of a major proposed mixed-use development on Old River Road.

Local Print shops can help spread the news about such awards and developments with Posters, Flyers, and other printed materials.

The Kenneth Pickard Municipal Innovation Award from the Massachusetts Municipal Association (MMA) was awarded to the volunteer photography exhibit of David Whitney from Andover.

His exhibit features a look behind the scenes of hundreds of municipal employees over a period of a year and a quarter. It focuses on operations taking place on a daily basis that residents often do not see. The exhibit of 130 photographs was at the Robb Center and Memorial Hall Library last year followed by select images displayed at the Connect 351 conference of the MMA in Boston. Andover was also second in Town Report Contest of the MMA for communities with a population of over 30,000 for its Annual Town Report for 2024.

The formal review process has also begun of a mixed-use development of five stories on Old River Road. The project, to be known as “The Commons at River Road,” will have 432 residential units, 65 of which will be designated as affordable, in addition to outdoor amenities, courtyards, retail on the ground floor, and structured and surface parking. There will be a public hearing on the project at the Town Office Building on Tuesday February 24 at 7:30 p.m.
