State forest in Andover offers June activities

There are several programs being held at the campground at Harold Parker State Forest in Andover this month.

On Friday afternoons, attendees can learn about the creatures that live in the ponds of New England. This program is appropriate for all ages.

For Saturday afternoons, those six years of age and older are invited to learn the basics of fishing in a pond in New England. The Campground Nature Center provides all the bait and tackle. In the Saturday evenings, a community campfire will be held. People can toast marshmallows and listen to favorite campfire stories.

On Sunday mornings, the park interpreter takes attendees for an easy walk on the trails in the park and educates them on the identification of birds by sound and sight. There are many species of birds that live in Harold Parker State Forest. Another walk in the woods is held on Wednesday mornings, where the park interpreter takes attendees to different parts of the forest each week.

All programs are free and open to the public. It is recommended to wear appropriate attire for each activity, including good footwear; bring bug spray and wear sunscreen; and bring cameras and binoculars.

The Forest might benefit from the assistance of a local printing company to promote these various activities by means of Flyers and Posters distributed throughout the community.
