Caitlin Brown, principal of Andover High School, has announced that five students have advanced to National Merit Scholarship Program for 2022.
Announcements of such accomplishments are often made known throughout a school and general community with flyer printing.
Jennie Wang, Jade Nair, Larry Liu, Owen Chen, and Owen Chanthaboun have met all the requirements to moved forward in the competition for close to 7,500 scholarships that total $30 million. Finalists for these scholarships need to write an essay, be recommended by an official from their high school, have an outstanding record for all their years in high school, and earn scores on the SAT or ACT that confirm their performance. They are selected based on their potential for success in rigorous college studies, and their skills and achievements.
Brown said that this is a unique honor and a credit to the hard work of these five students who have moved forward in the next step of the competition. Brown added that this national recognition will support them in their future educational goals.
Superintendent of the Andover Public Schools, Dr. Magda Parvey, said that is a rigorous process to be a finalist for a National Merit Scholarship so this accomplishment for these students is a demonstration of their academic achievement. Dr. Parvey said these students represent the academics strength and pride of Andover High School.
