Ride for kids to raise money for cancer

The Wilmington-Andover Pan-Mass Challenge Kids Ride will be coming to Wilmington later this month.

Headquarters for the event will be the Boutwell Elementary School in Wilmington. It is expected that 200 children in pre-kindergarten through sixth grade will be participating. The ride consists of a one-mile loop beginning and ending at the school, and children can do continuous loops in their allotted time period.

They can also make as many stops as they want and take short breaks, being able to get back on the course in the time period for their age group. During the ride, music, refreshments, and face painting will be available.

The ride was started by Carolyn Priem and Sue Hendee in 2006 and has since raised over $150,000 to help fight cancer. They may be working on marketing services to promote the ride and encourage as many participants as possible so they can reach their goal of raising $18,000 this year.

The registration fee is $15 and those children who $25 more will receive a water bottle, a goodie bag, and Pan-Mass Challenge Kids T-shirt.

The ride will be held this Saturday, May 21, beginning at 9:00 a.m. for children in kindergarten through grade three. From 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., grades four through six will ride. Tykes on Trikes will be on the tennis courts from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m.
