Senior residents of North Andover are being encouraged by the North Andover Council on Aging to apply for its program that enables seniors in the area to exchange work hours for relief from property taxes. Doing so will enable eligible seniors to reduce their tax bill by close to $1,200.
Director of the Elder Services Department, Irene O’Brien, said that the seniors in the town are talented and dedicated. The program enables the department to use the vast knowledge and experience they possess to benefit the entire town.
O’Brien said that plans are currently to expand the services offered by the department. The director of the program, Lya Morse, added that there is a rich cross-section of experience and talent in the town.
Seniors can work in the town offices, the schools, library, and the Council on Aging, among other places, and be administrative and educator assistants, carrying out such duties as food preparation, maintenance, and landscaping. More information about such available positions can be made to seniors throughout such communities with flyer printing.
Those who qualify for the program must be 60 years of age and older and reside in the town of North Andover. There are 60 available slots for this program, and those who will be participating will be chosen by lottery. All applications for this program are due by Friday, May 29.
