The Commonwealth of Massachusetts has awarded a grant of $2.3m to North Andover to fund infrastructure construction.
The funds will be used for road and sewer construction along Route 125 for Osgood Landing, which will enable a facility for e-retail giant Amazon to be constructed. The facility is expected to cost $200m.
The Regional Land Use Plan pf the Merrimack Valley Planning Commission considers the site, which is 165 acres in area, to be a development area of high priority. It will enable many businesses in the area to eliminate their dependence on short-term and septic sewer licenses along the route.
The facility Amazon will be building will include a warehouse and distribution facility spanning 3.8 million square feet. The project will renovate 400,000 square feet of existing office space and demolish 1.5 million square feet of existing building space.
Potentially, the new facility may be able to generate as much as $4m in tax revenue for the town and will be creating 1,500 jobs, many of which will no doubt require business card printing services. In addition, between 500 and 650 construction jobs will be created during the building phase.
Richard Vaillancourt, chairman of the Select Board, expressed his gratitude to the Commonwealth for its support of the project and the infrastructure needed for its success.
