New hockey coach named at Andover High School

Andover High School recently selected Chris Kuchar as its new head ice hockey coach.

Kuchar joins the school leaving the Amesbury High-Whittier Regional co-op team after four years; in the past year, the team had one its most successful seasons in the recent history of the school. Prior to that, it had won only three games across three seasons.

Kuchar was an athlete at Haverhill High School and Northern Essex Community College and now faces a new challenge at Andover, which is part of the Merrimack Valley Conference-Dual County League. Kuchar played in that league as a kid and has always had the goal to return to it. He now has a chance to pick up the fortunes of the Andover High School hockey team, which has had its most disappointing season since 1998-99.

At Amesbury-Whittier, Kuchar was able to revitalize the program by purchasing new hockey equipment and finding a new home at the Haverhill Valley Forum, which had better hours for practice and longer ice times than the team’s former rink at Graf Rink in Newburyport.

According to Glen Gearin, the Amesbury Athletic Director who spoke to the Andover Townsman this month, Kuchar was able to help the players work as hard as they could so as to make them better athletes.

No doubt flyer printing is being used to provide information to team members and their families about Kuchar’s appointment.
