New firefighters and promotions for Andover fire rescue

Andover Fire Rescue recently gained six new members and three new firefighters. Assistant Town Clerk Dawne Warren swore in the new group of nine people.

Lieutenant Kyle Murphy became a Deputy Fire Chief. In 1998, Murphy joined Andover Fire Rescue and was promoted to Lieutenant in 2013. In February 2018, he completed the Chief Fire Officer Management Training program of the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy.

Michael Mansfield, Andover Fire Chief, said that Deputy Chief Murphy has been working diligently and conscientiously for this promotion and is prepared to move into this new role. His goal is to do the best for the town and the department, and he has the knowledge to be able to support those in the department and provide the best for rescue services not only for Andover but when needed by neighboring communities.

Also sworn in as lieutenants were firefighters Ian Timmons, Jameson Lockhart, Thomas Kennedy III, Jeff Gaunt, and John Gangi. They all passed a rigorous state exam in late 2016 which qualified them for this ranking. Announcements of such promotions and additions to a department can be made known to the community through banner printing.

New firefighters to the department that were soon in were Michael Uttley, Matthew Beirne, and James Bancroft. They had completed their training as firefighters in 2017.
