New exhibits open in museum in Andover

The Addison Gallery of American Art, located on the campus of Phillips Academy in Andover, is now showcasing several new exhibits.

One exhibit is called “Women and Abstraction: 1741-Now” and comprises works from the gallery’s permanent collection. The exhibit features the works of female artists that have used the techniques and visual language of abstract art, such as patterns, texture, shapes, and Forms, to create artworks using various types of media, including drawings, photographs, sculpture, and ceramics. The works of art are from the 18th Century through to today.

Another exhibit will feature exclusively the works of Alison Elizabeth Taylor. The exhibit will have an installation the size of the room and 40 large-scale single panel works, and will trace the evolution of Taylor’s technique. Using the art of wooden inlay, which is centuries old, Taylor’s work displays American culture in the 21st Century.

The last exhibit features the work of Lavaughan Jenkins while he was the Edward E. Elson Artist-in-Residence at the Addison. His works look to pay tribute to Black women who made the biggest impression on him and the rest of the world.

Local Print shops can often help such galleries promote their exhibits by creating Flyers and Booklets that can be distributed throughout a community.

All exhibits are viewable now and run through Sunday, July 30.
