The Massachusetts Breast Cancer Coalition (MBCC) is currently running a program at the Stevens Memorial Library in North Andover, to which residents of Andover are welcome to attend, about certain chemicals and environmental hazards that can make women more susceptible to breast cancer.
MBCC has partnered with cities and towns to make the information it has gathered available to residents in libraries, hospitals, and other community areas. It has created informational Brochures about its program, called ‘Let’s Talk Prevention’, and will be making these Brochures available through early March. Through this program, the MBCC hopes to reduce exposures of a toxic nature, which can impact diseases that are linked to the environment, including breast cancer.
Kathleen Keenan, Director of the Library, commented that it is glad to be able to have this educational display in the library so it can educate its visitors on a very important issue.
A booklet for healthcare professionals was also created as part of the program. It summarizes the evidence showing how the exposure to common chemicals of concerns can lead to certain diseases, and how healthcare professionals can discuss these issues with their patients.
The Stevens Memorial Library will have both the booklet and the brochure on the top floor of the Library, next to the section for new Books. Keenan said visitors can take as many of each as they wish.
