Andover science teacher receives national award

The National Association of Biology Teachers (NABT) has given the Ron Mardigian Biotechnology Award for 2021 to Lindsey L’Ecuyer, a science teacher at Andover High School (AHS). This award is given to a teacher who teaches biotechnology in a creative way in the classroom.

Such announcements are often made known throughout the community with poster printing.

L’Ecuyer expressed her honor in being recognized for this award. She said that her challenge in teaching has been that being successful in science means being able to accept the uncertainty of not knowing the outcome of a problem. She added that a diverse group of problem solvers is needed in the field.

Principal of AHS, Caitlin Brown, said that L’Ecuyer has demonstrated her commitment to science and learning through her mentorship to develop biotechnology curricula at schools across the country. The science program advisor for the Andover Public Schools, Stephen Sanborn, said L’Ecuyer is an “exemplary” teacher and inspires her students and teachers both inside and outside the classroom. He said it is a “fitting celebration” of her work to be given this award from the NABT.

L’Ecuyer teaches biotechnology, forensics, and biology and has been with AHS for 13 years. She is also the advisor for the BioBuilder Club. The award will be given to L’Ecuyer in November at the national professional development conference of the NABT in Atlanta.
